Sirius Year 7 5-a side team came very close to qualifying for the National 5- a side competition after reaching the Hull Schools Final. The boys were a credit to the Academy throughout and could have easily gone through the competition undefeated.
The first group game saw Sirius perform well which led to them beating Sydney Smith 2-0 with two goals from captain Luke Salas. Their second game against Endeavour was again an outstanding performance which resulted in a 3-0 victory for Sirius with goals from Salas, Kenan Stephenson and Will Murphy. The boys final group game against Trinity House only needed a draw but again the boys were oustanding and won 4-1 with goals from Jordan Wardell, Joseph Wood and Salas (2).
The finals saw Sirius up against a strong Malet Lambert team along with St Marys. First up Sirius played Malet and despite playing the better Football and creating several great chances the boys were hit on the counter-attack and conceded goals to lose the match 3-1 with Salas scoring our goal. The last Finals match was Sirius up against St Marys and again Sirius created several great chances and should have won the game but had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Salas again grabbing the goal.
Special mentions to Luke Salas for scoring in every game and was easily the best player on show throughout the group stages from all Schools. Kieran Bartlett in goal who received a special mention from the organisor for his outstanding peformances and Joseph Wood who worked hard in every match.
Please congratulate the following boys on their outstanding performances-
Kieran Bartlett, Callum Magee, Chris Brown, Joseph Wood, Jordan Wardell, Luke Salas, Kenan Stephenson and Will Murphy.
Special thanks to Marc Rookyard for taking some of the boys down to Gemtec for the event. Also to Martin Smith for attending and cheering on the boys. Finally to Cosi Basile for his support and help as well as referreing games when Sirius were not playing.
