GIRLS FOOTBALL BONANZA!
This season girls football has taken off a storm with teams been represented throughout all year groups. The students have shown some outstanding commitment to both training and 5 a side fixtures and represented Sirius Academy on the local stage. The first game of the season came for the year 7 and 8 girls, both newly formed teams, at the Humberside regional Npower football tournament. Both teams played extremely well with the year 7 team in particular stamping their mark into the world of Humberside female football. The year 7 team put up an outstanding performance against some difficult opposition, keeping a clean sheet throughout all group games, but sadly missing out on a place in the final due to penalties.
Closely following was the Year 10 and 11 girls tournament at the Bonus area. Again the girls were nothing short of outstanding having only just been formed together as a team and with a new keeper in the shape of Charlotte Marsham. There were some fantastic individual performances such as Natasha Wood, proving a strong defence which others struggled to break down and Lauren Genter and Chelsea Baynes who combined well up front to create many goal scoring opportunities.
The year so far has been finished in style with a grudge 5 a side match between the year 7 girls and boys in aid of the Movember charity. Sirius Academy has been working tirelessly all month to raise funds for this charity and the year 7's decided to celebrate the final day, Friday 30th November 2012, with a role reversal match. The girls donned moustaches and the boys acquired some dashing red lipstick to face one another for the match which was eagerly watched on by other year 7 students. Unfortunately the girls suffered a slight defeat, loosing 5-4, however they are determined to bring it back after the next meeting before Christmas.
All in all a fantastic term for girls football!
