Girls U.16s Schools Cup!

[09 Mar 2011]

Last night, 13 footballers represented the Academy in the Hull Schools Cup and produced a fantastic performance beating Malet Lambert 3-0.

The girls got off to a great start on what was a perfect evening for playing sport, with Courtney Laurence scoring the opening goal. This came off the back of some great defence and communication by the girls with captain Kerryn Jackson showing some strong organisational skills. 10 minutes later, Laurence scored her second goal which meant that girls went into half time with a 2-0 lead.

After halftime, Natasha Friend and Lauren Platts were substituted onto the field. Lauren did extremely well over-coming her nerves in her first time representing the Academy and put in a confident display. The tides turned slightly during the second half with Sirius finding themselves defending most of the time. Nicola Allan and Natasha Wood were outstanding in defence and saved Sirius on numerous occasions from conceding.

With only 5 minutes to go in the second half, Natasha Friend found herself in the right place at the right time and bagged Sirius’ final goal. All of the girls showed fantastic gamesmanship and worked brilliantly as a team considering it was their first game together. The team will now progress through to the Quarter Finals of the Cup.
