Hull Schools Athletic Success!

[11 Jul 2016]

Sirius Academy competed against the other eleven schools in the city as always with some great success in the Hull Schools Athletics Championships!

There were some fantastic individual and team efforts throughout all year groups which culminated in the overall final placing’s:-

Year 7 Boys   = 2nd
Year 7 Girls   = 3rd

Year 8 Boys   = 4th
Year 8 Girls   = 5th

Year 9 Boys   = 4th
Year 9 Girls   = 4th

Year 10 Boys = 2nd
Year 10 Girls = 7th

Although we did not win a ‘Year Championship’ the placing’s are very respectable and Sirius were unfortunate with some of our main athletes unable to compete through injury and illness.  Mia Duke (Year 10) and Mia Husband(Year 9) who had won so much the year previously were sorely missed and a potential star in Lauren McClean was a massive blow to the Year 7 Girls. Team placing’s would have been closer to winning the championships if everyone had been present.

There were many stand out performances  in all year groups with Jessica Walker and Jack Mortimer at Year 7; Hollie Young; Beth Dixon and Leon Stewart at Year 8; Hollie Dodsworth; Harry Coulbeck and Steve Willits at Year 9; and at Year 10 Jack Scottow and Molly Bigby.

Fourteen winners in being first individually or as a team and numerous placed results – a great achievement and well done to all our athletes.

Of course it is not always about winning and one of the highlights of the day was the courage displayed in a most arduous 1500m race by Harry Fenton in Year 7. Not very ‘big’ but a boy who showed tremendous ‘ heart’ and paced himself so well to close in on being a close third in a tough race.  A deserved mention!

Thank-you to all the staff who supported the event on the day –Emma Bore; Hannah Shaw; Rachel Gay; Martin Smith; Chris Rogers and Alex Sherwood.
