Humber Games U.I6 Football Tournament

[22 Mar 2014]

On Wednesday Sirius Academy were represented in a Humber Games U.16 Football Tournament at Hull University by boys from Year 10 and by some of our Sixth-Form Leaders.

The day involved students who do not get the opportunity or are not of the standard to play for their schools or academies first teams.

The day involved a morning of coaching in which our leaders Kieron Jones; Courtney Lawrence; Markus Craig; Kara Harold and Natasha Wood who were involved in leading sessions and then later to referee.

The team was represented by Ayden Picker; Bradley Hunt; George Boyes; Dimitrios Grammenos; Matthew Preston; Clayton Brennan; Liam Markham; Josh Baynes and Nick Lavin.

Teams were in a league where they played five games and the team with the most points and better goal difference would win the tournament.

Unfortunately we did not get off to a good start and were beaten 4-1 by a Wolfreton team which later proved to be costly.

The team was led by Nick Lavin which then settled down and went on to win their remaining four games against St.Mary’s 1-0; St.Mary’s Two 2-0; Winterton Two 5-0; and Havelock 1-0.
This meant the team ended with 12 points the same as Havelock who they had beaten but who had a better goal difference.

The boys were ‘gutted’ to be runners-up but had put up a good show and had thoroughly enjoyed the day and opportunity to play football as a team.

The highlight of all the matches was Ayden Pickers performance in goal against Havelock where he was outstanding in keeping them out and in the goals that Clayton Brennan scored.

Well done to all the boys and our leaders, and to Fiona Scott for a great and thoroughly enjoyable day! Our students did us proud!
