Reece Shipley Wins Key Stage Three Sportsman Of The Year At Hull Active Schools Annual Award Evening!
Congratulations are in order for one of Sirius Academy Wests young students in Reece Shipley who was nominated and won ‘Key Stage Three Sportsman Of The Year’ across all schools at the Hull Active Schools Annual Award Evening.
The award was sponsored by ‘The Constellation Trust’ and presented by inspirational guest speaker Ben Smith who became famous and known for running 401 marathons consecutively for charity in a project that would change his life forever.
Reece thoroughly deserved the award for representing the academy in many sports including football; cricket; basketball and athletics including cross-country and orienteering. Reece is also a ‘Sports Scholar’.
Reece is presently Hull Schools(for the second year) and the Humber County Champion at Orienteering to be defended and hopefully won again shortly.
Reece acts as a role model and works hard during lessons and through representing the academy to achieve his very best at all times.
Ben Smith provided the inspiration and message in that he went from someone who disliked sport to someone who found a sport that suited him in order to fit his mindset and health. Ben was bullied at school but used this to his advantage after suffering a stroke at twenty nine. Mentally and physically he found a sport which would change his life and make him the positive role model he is for all to follow. A message which is one everyone can take on board and do something positive with their lives.
Reece has shown that he is finding sport to inspire and motivate himself to achieve new heights and deserves the accolade and recognition for his efforts.
The evening also saw our Year 8 Girls deservedly being awarded ‘Team Of The Year’. Congratulations to Rachel Gay and the girls – a report I am sure Rachel will report on herself. We wish them luck on Thursday in the National Final.
Congratulations also to Leon Stewart who was one of three students nominated for ‘Key Stage Four Sportsman Of The Year’ but ended up as a recognised runner-up.
