Sirius Academy West Year 11 Girls Hull Schools Champions
The year 11 girls showed their quality once again with some outstanding performances in the round robin tournament to beat Archbishop Sentamu and St Marys Academy to go through to the Yorkshire Competition seeded in first place.

In a very physical game Sirius Academy came out worthy winners in the end, but it was certainly a tough battle as the Archbishop Sentamu side were big and strong down the middle. Smart play from the Sirius side got the ball down the flanks and Leander Haywood showed real pace to go over in the corner. Shortly after the ball went down the other wing, and the impressive Amy Purdon raced over. The defence of the Sirius side was outstanding as they did not phase the big players running at them, with Shannon Jordan, Lauren Sutton, Chloe Dunn and Cameron Shakespear at the heart of it. Scoreline 2 – 0 at halftime. The second half saw Sirius get over in the early stages, some great work from Mia Husband put us in good field position and Shannon Jordan crashed over from close range. The dangerous Danny Waters extended the lead further with a great solo try before Amy Purdon showed strength and speed to go over for her second of the game. Archbishop Sentamu got over for a late consolation try, but this did not take the shine off a superb performance from the girls, final score 5 – 1.
Sirius Academy West 5 St Marys 1
Sirius came into this game knowing that if they won this one then they would be crowned champions. The nerves seemed to get the better of them as they made quite a few errors in attack. But they did manage to go over in the later stages of the first half, after some good thinking from Amy Purdon who scooted her way through the gap on the last tackle to make it 1 – 0 at halftime. After a talk at halftime the girls seemed to pick up their second half performance, and it was Mia Husband who doubled the lead in the early stages with a great individual try. St Marys went over to close the gap but then Sirius got into second gear and went over for three more tries before the final whistle. Danny Waters scored in the corner showing real pace to round the defence. Debutant Terri Sainty also went over to cap off a fine first tournament. But it was Amy Purdon who stole the show and went over for a well deserved try to make the final score 5 – 1.
