Sirius Academy Year 7 Girls Football team make it through to the next round

[25 Feb 2016]

The Sirius Academy Year 7 girls football team played in their first 9-a-side competition against Hall Cross Academy, Doncaster and put in an impressive performance with a 10 – 0 victory to see them sail through to the next round of the National Cup.

The girls started the game well and spent the majority of their first five minutes in the opposition half creating numerous chances. Isabella Taylor was first on the scoresheet when she shot into the bottom corner. Ellie Robertson doubled the lead shortly after with a superb solo goal outpacing the defence and slotting the ball home. The midfield of Alyx Worth, Paige Collingwood, Georgia Coggin and Kadie Laws was looking energetic and stringing some good passes together to find their strikers.  Taylor scored her second goal with a fantastic strike before Georgia Coggin joined in from the midfield and fired home.  Hall Cross didnt have many opportunities to get forward as the Sirius defence were first to everything, with Phoebe Armstrong leading well from the back. Taylor got her hat-trick when Robertson played in a low cross for her to score from close range.  For the first time in the game keeper Lucy Sainty was called upon and she made a superb save, coming off her line well. Robertson rounded off the first half scoring after she latched onto a great ball from defender Alisha Dayes who looked very comfortable on the ball.

The second half started the same as the first half, with Sirius dominating in possession. They were keeping the ball well and looking to use the space outwide, which was causing Hall Cross a lot of problems. Alyx Worth was playing the role in front of the back three well and intercepting any loose balls in the middle. Georgia Coggin was looking more energetic as the game went on, and when she played a well angled pass to Taylor the score was extended to 7 – 0. Credit to Hall Cross, they really kept trying to get on the scoresheet, but the defence of Jess Toner and Rachel Robinson was outstanding and ensured they did not get a shot on goal. Robertson was finding good space out on the left, and was looking to link up with striker Taylor at every opportunity as she managed to score three more goals in quick succession after some great one two football. The scoreline finished 10 – 0, with all the squad playing a massive part in this impressive performance.

Please congratulate the Year 7 Girls Football team on their success, attitude and behavior:-
