Sirius CCF Shooting Competition 10 Nov 2019

[12 Nov 2019]
Yesterday, for the first time we entered a team of cadets into the Cadet Skill at Arms Meeting (a target shooting competition) held at Strensall ranges near York, where teams from across the county represent the Combined Cadet Force and their school.

With no weapons or nearby ranges available for frequent training, we entered the competition as the definite underdogs.

This is the most prestigious military shooting competition for our brigade.  Teams fire the cadet rifle distances up to 200m on electronic popup targets from the prone position. This is followed by the knockout Falling Plate competition where teams need to dash forward 100m and shoot down eight plates quicker than their opposition.

At the final presentation, Sirius came runners up in the Falling Plate Shoot, narrowly missing out to Ampleforth College. Coming home with a silver medal, a monumental achievement for all involved. Overall, a very successful day out as well as being a valuable learning experience for all the cadets who were excellent ambassadors for our CCF unit and school.

Congratulations to Dylan Wilkinson, Cameron Sheppard, Gabija Giedryte, Spencer Edwards and Leon Casey.

I would like to thank the cadets, who acquitted themselves well; it is always a pleasure and a privilege to take cadets to these events.
