Sirius into the Semis!

[14 Jan 2016]

At a neutral venue on another freezing, wet and dark night, Sirius Academy faced Winifred Holtby in the Hull Cup 1/4 final! The team received a massive boost with the return of Alex Appleby from injury, Jamie Gould from his new local Chinese employment and Dom Litwinski from his international break back home in Poland. The changes made, also gave the Sirius team cover on the bench, unlike last game.

Once again, sloppy mistakes at the back led to the team falling 1-0 behind within the first 10minutes. An O.G from once M.O.M Keiran Sewell with a tidy finish in the far corner. The team regained their focus and started to take control of the game. Shahyar, Alex and Dom providing much needed creativity skipping past the Winifred defence.  The team drew level when Shahyar made a fantastic run down the right flank, beating a couple of defenders on his way and cut the ball across to Alfie Pougher who finished the ball high above the keepers reach.

With the confidence from scoring, Sirius pressed on with Alex Appleby being the midfield maestro providing Jamie Gould with a fine ball across the box to slot home to make it 2-1.  The high pressure football paid off just before half time with Dom Litwinski scoring his first goal of the season with a comfortable finish in the area.

Looking to press on in the second half and get back in the game Winifred pulled one back to make it 3-2. Again, it was another goal which the team need to work on cutting out. Dylan Freeman, Joe Coates and Callum Sims (last two making their debuts) came on in replace of Alfie, Keiran and Josh to provide some fresh legs and energy to keep the lead. Once again, Alex dazzled his way through majority of the Winifred defence into the box. His inability to provide the finish led to the ball falling to the incoming Dylan Freeman who scored his first goal for the team to make it 4-2! Jordan Hance came on for the excellent Shahyar Messi to try and tighten things up at the back. However, this led to another goal being conceded in the dying minutes of the game. In the end the Sirius team held their own to win the game 4-3.

The team now await to hear from the other round games to see who they will face in the semi-final before half term. #KeepBelieving as the team still are in contention for the league, Hull Cup and 5-a-side treble.

Please congratulate the following pupils:

Stephen Pougher, Jak Langley, Adam Kelsey, Callum Baker, Kieran Sewell, Dom Litwinski, Alex Appleby, Josh Jarvis, Jamie Gould, Alfie Pougher, Shahyar Hosseini, Joe Coates, Jordan Hance, Dylan Freeman and Callum Sims
