[04 Apr 2011]

2 members of the Sirius karate Academy really did strike gold with their outstanding performances at the Shindo-kai Junior karate Championships in Barnsley.

14yr old Jodie Stanford, who was competing in her first ever karate competition won 2 gold medals, the first coming in the 13-15yrs kata section, even though Jodie is a blue belt in karate she has been learning the Black belt kata “Annanku” and it was this kata which jodie performed to perfection in the final of the competition, a performance which saw jodie easily beat her opponent and win the gold medal.

After winning the gold medal for her kata performance Jodie then went on to fight in the girls 13-15yrs team event, where Jodie went on to win yet another Gold medal.

14yr old Mohammed Othman was also in sparkling form with his fighting, even though he was fighting much bigger opponents mohammed was not fazed and he dominated all of his fights using his lightning fast kicking techniques to fight his way into the final where again he easily beat his opponent to take the Gold medal and be crowned CHAMPION.

Still buzzing from winning the gold in the Individual fighting, Mohammed then went on to fight for the Hull & East Riding Team, after winning even more fights Mohammed won a Bronze medal in the team fighting.

Another Sirius student Aboudi Neema was also in very good form in the kata section and just missed out on a medal after finishing a very respectable 5th out 26 in his category.
