SIRIUS LIFT CUP – SIRIUS 4 WINIFRED HOLTBY 1

[01 May 2012]

Sirius Under 16’s lifted the Hull School’s Cup by defeating Winifred Holtby by four goals to one.

Sirius started slowly and defensively were struggling to keep up with the attacking threat of Holtby,

and were fortunate not to find themselves a couple of goals down only for the bravery of Rich Moy in goal who stopped everything!

Sirius held on and against the run of play took the lead through their captain Macauley Duke.

It became apparent that with the help of the wind and a direct and well delivered goal kicks tha Holtby were struggling themselves to cope with the direct play and were placed under increasing pressure themselves, finding it difficult to cope with the power of Jordan Abdul and Macauley Hallett up front.

The Sirius defence started to come to terms with their roles and Liam Gordon, Jason Norfolk, Jack Lister and William Collier holding strong and protected in front by Liam Robinson. .

Sirius were becoming more confident and competing better and were always a threat on the counter attack.

Indeed chances went a begging and Sirius through midfield and Jensin Turgut and Marcus Craig provided the

‘ammunition’ for Abdul to score on a couple of occasions, one chance was easier to score than miss!

The second half saw the introduction of Josh Wood and Ben Foster. The team were now getting on top and quick

breaks out of defence were proving fruitful and it was not long before Sirius scored their second. A move which

culminated in Macaley Hallett scoring the second. It was not long after that in the same fashion the third was manufactured with Abdul on the end to convert.

Sirius were well on top now and defending resolutely with outstanding displays from many players especially Will Collier in defence and the tremendous work rate shown by the captain Macauley Duke who led by example.

It was he who completed the scoring.

Holtby to their credit kept going and were rewarded with an excellent consolation goal by Ben Lewis.

Rich Moy made a fantastic ‘flying’ save to push the ball away on another occasion.

However, it was too late and Sirius marched on to yet another success!

The late introduction of Kurtis Adjei and Stephen Batty made up a squad that deserved their win and were worthy winners!

Please praise the boys for their efforts!

Thanks to Tom Mclaughlin with his support of the team.
