Sirius Sixth-Form Win Again! Sirius 1 Grimsby Town F.C Futsal 0

[28 Feb 2014]

Sirius Sixth-Form gained their third successive win with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Grimsby Town F.C Futsal.

Another friendly game in which experimenting and trying different players to source a team was very high on the agenda.

In a very even contested game both teams cancelled each other out and chances created were few at either end –although Sirius could of made more of set pieces at free-kicks and corners.
However, persistence in chasing and closing down players caused an early error from the Grimsby defence which allowed Ryan Holden to take advantage and score from close range.

Both teams continued to pressure without creating a great deal. Much of this was down to both defences holding firm with the Sirius defence exceptionally well marshalled
Through Liam Gordon (Captain); Ryan Langton; Brandon Hepworth; James Fenton; and Rich Moy and later Joshua Milner.

The ‘stale mate’ was also a feature of the midfield area with Kieren Jones; Jack Lister; Liam Sigurdsson; Macauley Duke;; Liam Noonan; Lee Bonner and Mitchell Levi-Lewis working
industriously throughout with little creativity in making chances from either side.

Up front Ryan Holden; Markus Craig and Connor Frank persisted in their efforts which were thwarted throughout.

(Cameron Smith also part of the squad did not play through illness prior to the game but was most supportive).

Nevertheless, another good win and excellent preparation for a Humberside Cup match against Wolfreton to be played in the next couple of weeks .
The team is starting to take shape and they have worked extremely hard to gain their successes and deserve praise for their maturity and endeavour.

A moral victory over Grimsby for our boys!
