Sirius Win Thriller!

[02 Oct 2015]

Year 9 football boys produced a gutsy and determined performance to beat St Mary’s 6-5 last night. Once again the midfield three of Jack Tanser, Gael Nzayadio and Steven Willits, the boys were always looking strong linking together some great passes moving the ball from defence through to the powerful strike force of Ethan Kendall, Jay Mainprize and Bayer ‘The Bull’ Ahmed was proving too much for the St Mary’s back line. Pressing from the front the boys were rewarded when the ball broke to Tanser on the edge of the box who dribbled past the defence to slot home from 8 yards out! The boys continued enthusiasm was showing when Tanser put another great ball through for Jay to slot home to make it 2-0 Sirius! They do say in the world of football 2-0 is the most dangerous of leads… well this was apparent as the Sirius defence let slip and let Mary’s attack through to pull a goal back for the ‘hoops’. Bayer ‘The Bull’ showed his strength to win the ball 30 yards out dribble past the defence knocking 3 of their players over in the process (‘BULLY’) and smashed home from inside the box. Sirius 3-1. Once again the 2 goal lead made our Sirius boys get a bit too comfortable and with a defence splitting pass the ‘Hoops’ were in again making it 3-2. Time for Mr Bayston to rally the troops with a motivational speech and get them moving again. With the boys enthusiasm back up and going for the attack the ball came through to Jay Mainprize on the right who produced a top draw finish! 4-2 to Sirius.

Half Time.

Clearly Mr Bayston talk was working.. The boys burst out like they finished the half mixing well together and the defence of new rock Tomas Stabler, and Ryan Jackson keeping the back 4 tight! With that solid structure the boys played 7 passes and Bayer got through to square it to Gael ‘excellent and uninselflessishly’ as Mr Bayston put it 5-2. WOW!

Again the boys became complacent and let the ‘hoops’ attackers through to score making it 5-3 and the last 10 minutes intense! Up stepped Tanser to calm the nerves with a 25 yard rocket free kick up and over the wall! Was this the end of the drama?…

NO!

The ‘hoops’ managed to press our boys and eventually make us park the bus but with the clock going down and the minutes ticking, tired legs became apparent. The ‘Hoops’ scored making it 6-4! Then again breaking the defence with a cross and a Mary’s player tapping in…6-5 with 5 minutes to go (Sad Face!). The monstrous Gael dropping in the back 4 to make it a 5 and the defence held their own until the final whistle! What a game!
