Thirty-Five Students Represent Sirius Academy And The City Of Hull In Humberside Cross-Country Finals
Thirty-Five Students Represent Sirius Academy And The City Of Hull In Humberside Cross-Country Finals. Tom Overton Leads Home The Year 8/9 Boys To Be County Runners-Up!
Sirius Academy West had thirty-five students that qualified and represented the City of Hull in the Humberside 2017/18- Cross-Country Championships. An achievement in itself! These students had earlier qualified from the Hull Cross-Country Championships.
The elements had to be braved again and on a cold and blustery day, as per normal, all thirty-five students had to push themselves to the limit to not only represent themselves, the academy, but their city against the East Riding; North East Lincs; and North Lincolnshire.
In trying to be successful means that the you have to step up a level when the going or competition gets harder one has to stretch themselves further to succeed. I suppose this sounds familiar? It is something that we all have to strive for in order to better ourselves and try to excel towards our expectations. Our students certainly did that, by qualifying in the first place- but the task got harder as they were up against some excellent all-round runners. However, they strove to achieve their best with some outstanding results!
Considering there are somewhat forty secondary schools in these regions our students ran their hearts out and gave all of themselves. Exceptional!
The Year 8/9 Junior Boys finished second overall – a fantastic achievement! They were led home by Tom Overton who finished 16th and as a consequence is a reserve for the ‘English Schools Cross-Country Championships in Norfolk later in the year. The team comprised of Tom Overton; Lewis Wilkin; Owen Fletcher; Jack Mortimer; Harry Fenton; Daniel Chadwick; Mason Chaffer. A fantastic achievement!
I personally cannot remember a student qualifying or being a reserve for the ‘English Cross-Country Championships’ – so well done Tom Overton!
There were other outstanding results with Kirsten Young 24th in the Girls Senior Event. Some achievement and what is pleasing to see is that Kirsty has continued to improve and better herself and in wanting to succeed; Lillie Bennett 41st and Emmie Lou Fenton 43rd in the Girls Senior; Jess Toner 36th In the Minor Girls Event ; Reece Shipley 36th in the Boys Minor Event; Lydia Moore 32nd in the Girls Minor Event. Some great results when you consider there are up to 100 competitors in each race.
Please congratulate all our students for their fantastic efforts and achievements!
