U13 Girls Rugby Union Success

[12 Mar 2015]

The U13’s girls rugby union team have made it through to the Yorkshire Finals at Wetherby after convincingly beating every team they came up against in the East Yorkshire Competition. This is the first taste of success for the U13’s and they thoroughly deserved to be crowned the champions of East Yorkshire.

Sirius Academy were drawn in a league with two other schools, Headlands and Eskdale. 9 teams had entered the competition and was split up into three leagues of three teams.

Sirius Academy 11 Headlands 0

Sirius ran in 11 unanswered tries in the 12 minute match, but what was most impressive was the defensive qualities they showed, ensuring Headlands did not get over the try line. Tries for the Sirius team in this game came from Amy Purden (3), Danielle Waters (4), Alisha Pearson, Lauren Sutton, Caitlin Curzons and Bath Dixon.

Sirius Academy 13 Eskdale 0

Again Sirius Academy showed their skill in attack, with the opposition being unable to handle the speed and strength of the girls. Another impressive defensive display meant that Sirius did not concede a try. Tries in this game came from Amy Purden (3), Ellie Hinchcliffe (2), Caitlin Curzons (2) and one each for Danielle Waters, Mia Husband, Levis Lewis, Keila Allen, Alisha Pearson and Lauren Sutton.

By winning their two games, the girls now went onto the winners league where they faced the team that finished first in their respective leagues.

Sirius Academy 7 Archbishop Holgate 2

This was a slightly tougher test for Sirius as Archbishop had a few big strong players, but this did not fase the Sirius girls, who once again provided a great performance with tries from Cameron Shakespear (2), Amy Purden (2), Danielle Waters (2) and Mia Husband.

Sirius Academy 8 Kelvin Hall 2

Sirus knew if they won the next game against Kelvin Hall then they would receive the winners trophy for the East Yorkshire Competition and go through to the Yorkshire stages. The girls conceded a try in the first minute of the game, but responded well with eight consecutive tries, coming from Danielle Waters (3), Amy Purden (2), Cameron Shakespear  (2)and Beth Dixon.

Please congratulate the girls on their success:-
