The year 7's have began their year of Rugby with a bang. They have gone unbeaten in every match, which will lead them through to qualify and compete for the Yorkshire cup.
The deciding game was against Beverley Longcroft who turned up with an aura of confidence; this was soon abolished when the Sirius lads stepped on the pitch to mean business.
Beverley won the toss to receive the kick from the first whistle. this was a successful set for the visitors as they finished 5 tackles with an effective kick into the Sirius half, this was returned through the forwards Connor Arnold and Fletcher Elliott who brought their A game and caused the defence all sorts of problems for the duration of the match. this hard work set the platform for the first try form Bailey Jennison in the corner after the ball had gone through 4 pairs of hands. In just 3 minutes it was 4-0.
From the restart, the Sirius boys made their way into the Beverley half and completed their 3rd tackle just 5 meters away from the try line, this was through a darting scoot that split the markers from Macca Medlam who was held up short. To complete the Set Sam Hassard threw a wild dummy to the left for all of the Beverely team to fall for, which opened up their defence for him to step into and extend the score 8-0.
Again from the restart the Sirius boys began to find their flow through Lennie Ellis and Will Furmage playing some excellent Rugby utilising their confidence to put the ball through numerous pairs of hands until it met Malachi, who used his power to bounce off 2 defenders and score out wide in to consecutive sets making it 16-0 in the early stages, this try was closely followed again from similar play, but this time finish in the corner with the new signing Jack Silvester, who used his pace to skip through the defence and take the score to 22-0. This time the conversion was successful from Lennie Ellis.
With the confidence of the boys growing, the small mistakes began to creep in. The big number 8 from Beverley got his hands on the ball early in his teams tackle count and exploited the defence to run in under the sticks and take the score to 22-4. He was the man to cause upset again as he began to use his size and cause mayhem which led him to score again taking the score to 22-8.This led the boys into frustration; from here they completed every set from the rest of the game and forced errors in the Beverley attack. this paid off as they knocked the ball on close to their line. From the back the Sirius boys put on a play which saw Bailey Jennison go over to score in the corner and redeem 4 points to take the score to 28-4. this was further extended from Malachi Tony from the final kick off to complete the game 32-8.
A huge well done goes out to Tom Borman who refereed the match and made some excellent decisions!
