Year 10 Rugby boys lose in Hull Schools Cup!

The Year 10 Rugby team lost out to Kelvin Hall in a close encounter in the West Hull Schools Cup. The team with several key players unavailable, battled well and had chances to win the game but could not post the vital last score that would have given them victory. The team has had its most successful year since joining the Academy, and have much to be proud of after reaching the Yorkshire Cup Final, and the National Cup Quarter-Final, were again they lost with a depleted team.

The game began with Sirius on the front foot, and despite the lack of time spent together as a team, they played some good Rugby with Benn Arbon sending Brendan Hepworth away for a long-distance try and a 6-0 lead, after Year 9 Josh Caville had converted. Kelvin responded however a good spot from Calvin Parker at acting-half allowed another Year 9 in Liam Moss to send Liam Sigurdsson over at the corner to give Sirius a 10-6 lead. However the lack of numbers and players playing in different positions told on Sirius who conceded twice to fall 16-10 behind at half-time.

Kelvin crossed quickly in the 2nd half to put Sirius 20-10 down. However credit to the boys who stuck in, with Liam Platten, Parker, Louis Calvert running strongly and Arbon spreading the ball wide for George Scottow, Hepworth and Josh Jackson. Scottow produced an excellent 70metre try to pull the score back to 20-14 before Hepworth broke through and as he rounded the full-back to score under the sticks, the ball was stripped and the try was scored out-wide, forcing a missed conversion and leaving Sirius 20-18 down. Sirius had chances to win, and Jon Godwin had a try disallowed but it was not to be and they narrowly lost out.

Please congratulate the following boys on their attitude and behaviour:

Connor Giddings (Year 9), Jon Godwin, Brendon Hepworth, Liam Sigurdsson, Louis Carmichael, Calvin Parker, Tom Hance, Josh Jackson, Liam Platten, George Scottow, Liam Moss (Year 9), Josh Illmes-Caville (Year 9), Louis Calvert, Benn Arbon, James Atkinson, Jack Walton.

Please also congratulate the following boys who could not play tonight but played their part in the team's success this year:

Liam Harris, Jamie Warcup, Harry Tyson-Wilson, Kieran Jones, Kai Overton, Peter Butcher, Jordan Borman, Ben Ramsay, Rohid Zamani.
