Year 10 Rugby team struggle in County Semi-Final!

[09 Feb 2014]

The Sirius Academy Year 10 Rugby team left themselves too much to do after a nightmare 1st half showing in their Yorkshire Cup Semi-Final against St John Fisher (Kirklees). The team could not get themselves into the match and struggled defensively and despite improving in the 2nd half, the 26-0 half-time score-line meant the game was over at that point. The team now look forward to the defence of their Hull Schools Cup, a competition that they have won for the past two seasons, and can look back on the year so far with pride after reaching their 1st ever Yorkshire Semi-Final and also playing in the Carnegie Champion Schools National Cup.

The 1st half started and continued with Sirius struggling to defend. In the middle the boys matched their opponents with Jon Mills and Kai Thorpe taking the ball up strongly, with Man of the Match Brad McLoughlin taking several strong carries and defending well. However Fisher exposed Sirius several times out-wide, scoring five 1st half tries to take the game away from Sirius.

With a stern half-time talk, the boys took to their target of winning the 2nd half with determination. Tom Greenham, Ray Brown and Chris Brown came more into the game with Kenan Stephenson and Lochlan Fitzgerald getting their hands on the ball more. Fisher crossed again before Brandon Eastwood crashed over for Sirius’ 1st try quickly followed by Ray Brown. Fisher crossed once more however Eastwood finished the scoring to leave Sirius on the wrong side of a 38-12 score-line.

Special thanks to Rachel Gay for her support with the team, to Emma Bore for driving and supporting the team and to 6th Form student Harry Brigham for his assistance.
