Year 10 start with a win!

The Sirius Academy Year 10 Rugby team started their season with a tough 26-16 victory over Andrew Marvell in a repeat of the previous two seasons Hull Schools Cup Finals. In a tough match Sirius had to fight their way back into the match after twice been behind on the score-line. The team now have four remaining League fixtures as they hope to qualify for the Champion Schools Yorkshire Cup for the 4th successive season.

Marvell started the game strongly and deservedly took an early 4-0 lead. With Loch Fitzgerald leading the Sirius team forward and finding willing runners in Chris Brown, Ray Brown and James Ducker, Sirius began to work their way into the game. Fitzgerald sent Ducker over for the 1st Sirius try which Fitzgerald converted for a 6-4 lead, however Marvell struck back with a converted try for 10-6. Forwards Jon Mills, Tom Greenham and Kai Thorpe battled down the middle whilst backs Luke Salas, Callum Magee, Owen Jones-Barker and Matty Taylor defended well against some strong-running players. On the stroke of half-time Fitzgerald dummied his way over with Thorpe converting for a 12-10 lead.

The 2nd half began with all Sirius with Jones-Barker and Salas going close. Quick hands saw captain Chris Brown over in the corner with Thorpe adding the goal from the touch-line for 18-10. Credit to Marvell who refused to lay down and they were next over to pull the score back to 18-16 with ten minutes left. Sirius defended strongly with Charlie Jackson, Alec Beaumont and Brandon Eastwood providing some timely interventions. In the last few minutes Sirius secured the game with firstly Chris Brown adding a 2nd try before an outstanding break from Brad McLaughlin which finished with a skilful back-handed pass saw Ray Brown go over to give Sirius their 26-16 win.
