Year 11 Boys Rugby: St Wilfreds Academy 16 Sirius Academy West 32
The Year 11 Boys secured second place in the Yorkshire League after beating St Wilfreds Academy 32 - 16.
St Wilfreds took the lead against the run of play with a smart kick from the scrum to score the first try of the game to make it 4- 0 to the home side. After that it was all Sirius as they attacked the St Wilfreds team well, with forwards Connor Foster and Alex Dunne making great yards forward to set the plays up for the backs and it wasnt long before the scores were level. A smart kick from Lewis Wilson on the last tackle saw Ahmed Bela go over in the corner. A few minutes later Sirius took the lead when another well worked kick from Lewis Wilson was picked up by Leon Stewart, and there was no stopping him going over for a try under the sticks and Lewis Wilson convert. 10 - 4 to Sirius. Just before the halftime break a superb team try extended the lead further, great thinking from Sam Macauley sent the play down the left side and good quick hands put Harry Norton through the gap and over to make it 14 - 4 at halftime.
The second half started much of the same with Sirius well in control of the game and is wasnt long into the half when Tom Wilkinson saw a gap in the middle of the defensive line and crashed over form close range, Kieran Welburn converted 20 - 4. Credit to St Wilfreds they did not give up and got a try back to reduce the lead to 20 - 10. Sirius responded in the right manner, but going up the other end and scoring once again under the sticks by Tom Wilkinson, converted by Kieran Welburn 26 - 10. Sirius thought the game was now out of reach and a few mistakes started to creep in as their concentration lacked, and they paid the price when St Wilfreds capitalised on a knock on near the Sirius tryline 26 - 16 with ten minutes to go. The impressive Wilkinson secured the victory with quick thinking to tap and go from the penalty and once again ended up under the sticks for his hat-trick. Kieran Welburn converted 26 - 16, but St Wilfreds had the final word with another try of their own to make the final score 32 - 16 in favour of Sirius Academy West.
Please congratulate the squad on their performance, attitude and behaviour:-
