Year 7 Boys Football Team continue cup success

[27 Mar 2014]

Following their previous 8-1 cup victory, the year 7 boys faced a tough Kelvin team who had previously won 5-4 in the league. However, the Sirius team were up for the game and set out to get revenge and did so with a hard earned win in extra time.

The game started with the return of the 2 first choice CBs in the starting 11 and Mr Rouse on the touchline and looked to carry on where they left off. From kick off both teams looked strong and up for the match and some great buildup play seeing Jay Mainprize break through the Kelvin defence only to be stopped by the Kelvin Keeper. Not to be fazed by the Sirius attack Kelvin themselves managed to break through the strong Sirius defence and test Joseph Hill, who was on fine form again commanding his area and throwing his body at the ball no matter the knocks he would pick up.

The break finally came with some excellent running and skill from Ethan Kendell on the right who crossed the ball into the area, which eventually found the hand of a Kelvin defender to give Sirius an opportunity to take the lead from the penalty spot. Jack Tanser, who lead the team by example throughout the game, stepped up and calmly slotted home in the bottom right corner. However, Kelvin once again found themselves breaking through the Sirius back line and brought the score level with a fine finish to make it 1-1 to end the first half.

The second half saw changes with Jayden Robson and Bayer Baper coming on to give the Sirius boys some energy for another tough 30minutes. The half saw both teams provided with great opportunities to take the lead, the best coming to Bayer who was unfortunate not to capitalise on a 1 on 1 situation. A couple more changes with Luke Riley and Tom Scarr being brought on created more chances, this time it was Kelvin who was stopped by some excellent goalkeeping and defending before the nail biting end of normal time.

Extra time started who two sets of tired players, of which were aiming to win the game in the two 7 minute halves. Some edge of your seat moments followed before Jack Tanser shot from long range to find the back of the net with the keeper struggling with the power. Sirius grew more in confidence and this was evident in the 2nd half of extra time with Bayer making it 3-1 with a fine finish just inside the 18 yard box. Finally Jack Tanser rounded off his man of the match display with a fantastic free kick from over 20 yards out which flew into the far post past the shocked goalkeeper to make it a hat trick and 4-1!

Excellent performance by all of the players and staff involved. Special thanks to Mr Basile and Mr Smith who were there to support the lads. Please can you congratulate:
