Year 7 Football boys move into National Cup 3rd Round!

[16 Oct 2015]

The Sirius Academy Year 7 Football team kept their unbeaten record intact with a superb victory over William Farr (Lincoln) in the ESFA National Cup 2nd Round. The team fresh from their draw against Malet Lambert on Tuesday evening, played well in spells of the match as they continue to grow as a team and look forward to a tough match against Kelvin Hall next Thursday evening.

The match began with Sirius showing their attacking intent, with Harry Wallis dictating play smartly and Harry Fenton causing problems up front alongside Alfie Sumpton. At the back Tom Overton led the back three with a calm presence, with Josh Smith and Jack Eland dealing with the speedy front two from William Farr. On eight minutes a Wallis corner was controlled by Sumpton who fired in from close range for 1-0. Tyler Leighton and firstly Danny Chadwick and then Alfie Newlove became more involved in the game, getting the ball wide and beating defenders. Sirius’ 2nd came from a quick Fenton free-kick which was played over the Farr defence for Sumpton to race onto and dispatch calmly for 2-0. On the stroke of half-time a neat goal from Farr was scored for a 2-1 Sirius advantage.

The 2nd half saw Carrington Walker and Renaldas Sokolovas introduced to add some energy into the play, which they duly supplied. Sirius moved further ahead when Wallis’ curling shot was parried into Sumptons path for him to score his hat-trick. Oliver Walker came on for his Academy debut at the back and looked assured with every touch whilst Dylan Norrie came on up front to cause issues for the Farr defence with his speed. Not quite satisfied Sumpton helped himself to a 4th goal after neat interchanges from Overton and Fenton. Wallis added a 5th goal after turning a defender and firing the ball into the top corner from 20 yards before Fenton rounded off the Sirius scoring by dribbling past two defenders before rifling the ball home from 25 yards for 6-1. Credit to Farr who finished with a late goal, beating Mason Palmer who had earlier pulled off two tremendous stops.

Special thanks to Martin Smith for his assistance with the team.

Please congratulate the following boys on their success, attitude and behaviour:
