Year 7 Girls - Yorkshire Finals
The Year 7 Girls played in their first Yorkshire Tournament at Dewsbury and came away with one win, one draw and two defeats. The girls were drawn in a very tough league of 5 teams.
Castleford 24 Sirius Academy 0
The girls first match was against Castleford Academy, who usually do very well in the girls competitions, with the majority of their players playing for clubs every week. Their strength, size and organisation was evident as they ran in 4 tries unanswered. The Sirius team knew they needed to be tougher in their remaining three games if they were to pick up any points in the league stages.
Sirius Academy 6 Huntington 6
Sirius Academy responded well to their earlier defeat. With some good defence on show as Tilly Lee and Tegan Lawler led the way. Sirius went 6 - 0 down after some good play from Huntington close to the tryline, but in the final play of the game Levis Lewis scooted form acting half back and went over to make the score 6 - 4 . She kept a cool head to slot over the conversion and get the draw.
Sirius Academy 6 David Young Academy 4
Sirius grew in confidence as Beth Dixon, Caitlin Faulder and Maja Bajek took the ball up well and making some good yards forward. Again Sirius failed to keep the opposition out near their own tryline as the Davig Young Academy player barged her way over the line. Again a great response from Sirius in the later stages of the game saw Levis Lewis go over for her second try of the competition, she also slotted over the conversion to win the game for the Sirius girls.
Sirius Academy 0 Mount St Marys 16
The final game for Sirius saw them play against a big, strong Mount St Marys team, who raced over on their first attack, as Sirius struggled to deal with their physicality. Credit to Sirius though, they did not make one mistake in attack, keeping the ball well for their set of six with a good kick and chase to finish. But the Mount St Marys team got two more opportunities and made them count.
Special thanks to Miss Martin for her support with the girls.
Please congratulate the squad on their performance in their first Yorkshire Tournament, the improvements throughout the competition were evident. Levis Lewis was the player of the match and showed her rugby league intelligence on a number of occasions, getting two well deserved tries.
