Year 7 Victory at Kelvin

[12 Oct 2011]

Sirius as seems to be their habit started slowly with Kelvin pressing the game in midfield and trying to feed their pacey front three. Callum Baker and Alex Appleby protected Adam Kelsey in goal well and Nathan Voakes kept Kelvins highly rated left wing very quiet with some strong tackling.
After about 15 minutes Sirius were starting to get a foothold in the game and begining to use the pace and tricks of Dominik Llitwinski to create Kelvins Back 4 a few problems. However a pass from Kelvins midfield split the Sirius defence and created confusion at the back allowing the Kelvin forward to dash in and score.

Sirius reaction was excellent and the Kelvin goal spurred Sirius into live Josh Jarvis and Jak Langley started to dominate in midfield. Sirius forced 4 corners in 5 minutes but the resulting goal mouth scrambles either saw near misses or good saves by the Kelvin keeper (who had an excellent game), Josh Jarvis, Jak Langley, Harry Knight all went close. Charlie Morriss went close with a fantastic lob which the keeper somehow managed to pull from the air.

Half time came with Kelvin still in the lead and Sirius wondering if they would ever score.

Martin Jude came on up front for the start of the second half and brought a new element to the front line with some excellent touches and link up play. Josh Jarvis continued to dominate in the middle of the field, and Alex Appleby dominating the aerial battle at the back. Sirius continued to press creating chance after change until at last Josh Jarvis rose high in the box to head home. 1 all game on.

Kelvin now raised their game and the match became end to end Callum Baker (Man of the Match) was outstanding at centre back leading the line well, showing a great reading of the game and was strong in the tackle. Nathan Voakes, Jak Langley and Alfie Pougher having run themselves into the ground where replaced by Connor Morgan-Hanson, Jack Best and Harry Storr.

Sirius were still the better team creating numerous chances, on another day Josh Jarvis could have had a hat –trick.
A strong tackle by Joe Boxall lead to the Sirius winner, he won the ball at left back it was played through midfield and Martin Jude was through on goal a chance he buried. The goal was good and it was well deserved but Mr Basil’s celebration was a sight to see.

With 10 minutes left Kelvin tried to force the game but in truth created very few real chances, the back four standing firm helped by Jack Best and Josh Jarvis.

I was delight at the final whistle not only because we had won but because the Kelvin coach came over and made a point of saying how well we had played and what a credit the boys were.
