YEAR 8 BOYS RUGBY LEAGUE TEAM NARROWLY MISS OUT ON FINAL
The Sirius Academy year 8 Rugby League team won 2 out of 3 games in a round-robin tournament, but narrowly missed out on a place in the final due to point difference.
The 3 games included a 10-6 win against Archbishop Sentamu Academy, a 14-4 win against Malet Lambert and a 22-0 defeat to St Mary's.
Sirius Academy 10 Archbishop Sentamu Academy 6
Sirius started their first game well after a pass from Tyler Hackett allowed Mikey Lewis to open the scoring early on.
The team then finished the half strongly and added an extra try just before the break, with Declan Jackson scoring and a Tyler Hackett conversion meaning that the score was 10-0 at half time.
The second half started with Archbishop reducing Sirius's lead to 4 points and could have caused a few nerves to kick in. However, Sirius gathered together and nearly killed the game off with some great play nearly leading to a third try.
But the game was sealed after a strong performance in the first half, and gave Sirius a confidence boost for their next game.
Sirius Academy 14 Malet Lambert 4
A Jordan Worner try after good running from Luke Moss and Jack Hassard equalised the scores after a Malet Lambert try and sent the teams into the break at 4-4.
Declan Jackson broke through early in the second half and was unlucky not to score himself, However, a try from Mikey Lewis, his second in two games, a full lengther from Jack Scottow and a conversion by Tyler Hackett soon followed to give Sirius their second win of the tournament.
Sirius Academy 0 St Mary's 22
A 22-0 defeat left Sirius relying on other results to be able to make the final. However, an Archbishop win meant that Sirius were knocked out on point difference.
After a close start, Sirius started to struggle to keep hold of the ball and St Mary's capitalised with 2 tries and conversions seeing them go into the break 12-0 up.
Two more tries and another conversion in the second half left Sirius with too high a mountain to climb at 22-0, and left them rueing missed chances which would have seen them progress.
