Year 8 Football team lose out in Hull Schools Semi-Finals!

[27 Mar 2012]

The Sirius Academy Year 8 Football team lost out to a hard-working Winifred Holtby team in the Semi-Finals of the Hull Schools Cup. The team produced a lack-lustre performance, against a team they had beaten earlier in the season. The boys effort could not be doubted, but they could not create any clear cut chances, and as time went on, they were hit on the counter-attack to concede goals to eventually lose out 3-1. The defeat is a set-back to the boys, as it is only their 2nd defeat of the season in their 11 games, however they still have the chance to gain silverware in the Final of the Humberside Schools Cup.

An excellent start to the game saw Luke Salas and Kenan Stephenson combine to put Lukas Mikoliunas through who cooley finished to put Sirius 1-0 up. However this was as good as it got for the boys, who despite creating half-chances for Will Murphy, Joseph Wood and Stephenson, could not add to their lead and conceded two quick-fire goals to leave them 2-1 behind at half-time.

The 2nd half was all Sirius, who continually pressed forward but could not find the crucial chance, despite Oliver Russell, Ewan Malton and Salas trying hard. Again like the 1st half, Holtby hit on the counter-attack to put Sirius 3-1 down, and left Sirius chasing the game, but they still couldnt manage to find the vital goal to swing the match.

Special thanks to Danny Rouse for his support and assistance with the boys and to Jon Flatman for support.

Please congratulate the following boys on their success so far and attitude:

Kieran Bartlett, Jordan Wardell, Robbie Hird, Callum Magee, Jordan Littlefair, Kenan Stephenson, Luke Salas, Will Murphy, Oliver Russell, Luke Collingwood, Lukas Mikoliunas, Jacob Horner, Tom Spurgeon, Ewan Malton, Chris Brown.
