Year 8 Girls RL Tournament

The Year 8 Girls played in the Regional Festival at Castleford Panthers, and managed 2 wins and loss in the 3 x 20 minute matches. The girls should be very proud of how they played, the improvements on last year were evident and I have high hopes that they will make it through to the National Finals this year.

Minsthorpe 1 Sirius Academy 8
Sirius ran in 8 tries in their first game, with only one try conceded. It looked like a shaky start for Sirius when the Minsthorpe player broke through after the kick off, but Cameron Shakespear came across with a superb tackle to bundle the player into touch. This set the scene for the Sirius girls and they pushed on from this scoring tries in quick succession, with 4 from Danielle Waters, 2 from Shannon Jordan and one each for Cameron Shakespear and Amy Purdon.

Castleford 4 Sirius Academy 0
Next up for Sirius were the National Champions Castleford, who had scored ten tries against Sirius last year in their match as year 7's. The Castleford team were rattled as Sirius forced them to make errors after some good strong tackles from Danielle Waters and Shannon Jordan. But the Castleford team were well organised in defence as Sirius struggled to find any gaps, however, Shannon Jordan was held up just short of the line and if she had some support it would have been a certain try. The Castleford team was just too strong in the end as the Sirius team tired and got some niggling injuries.

Sirius Academy 6 De Lacy 1
Sirius ended on a high with a good win against De Lacy. Amy Purdon went over first after some great support play from a Shannon Jordan run, some good tackles came in from Ellie Hinchliffe and Caitlin Curzons made some good yards as she took up the ball well. Other scorers in this game was Cameron Shakespear (2), Shannon Jordan (2) and one for Danielle Waters.

Special thanks to Mr Rouse, who assisted with the team.
