Year 8 Girls through to the Yorkshire Cup Final and National Finals

The talented year 8 Girls rugby league team were unstoppable in the Yorkshire Tournament, scoring 110 points and conceding 0 in their three league matches, seeing them sail through to the Yorkshire Final, which will be played at the home of Featherstone Rovers RLFC against St John Fisher. The girls will also have an opportunity to get to Wembley again when they play in the National Finals in Leeds.

Sirius Academy 44 Huntington 0
With the first touch of the ball Kayleigh Waller broke through the defensive line with ease, Mia Duke and Victoria Godwin got on the scoresheet shortly after showing good pace and vision to go through the gaps. Duke and Waller went over again, before Duke completed her hat-trick with a superb scoot from acting half back. Molly Bigby showed great determination for her try, as she showed good strength and agility to score a long range effort. Jamie Watson and Emily Andrew came in well off the wing and made good yards, before Godwin rounded off the scoring as the Huntington team struggled with the speed, strength and organisation of the Sirius side.

Sirius Academy 36 Castleford Academy 0
Sirius took on last years Yorkshire Finalists, in what was supposed to be their hardest fixture of the competition, but the Sirius team made it look easy. Try of the tournament came off the first touch of the ball, Kayleigh Waller made good yards and then drew in the full back to send away Amelia Longden for her first try. Waller then got on the scoresheet herself, again showing too much skill for the Cas side. But it was the defence of the Sirius side that impressed in this game, to nil a big Castleford team was the aim, and the girls did not disappoint, with Saffron Jones, Jess Delph and Georgia Wardell putting in some big hits in the middle of the park. Sirius were just unstoppable, as Molly Bigby went over for a try, Waller two more and then captain Mia Duke went over for the last try of the match, capping off a fantastic team effort.

Sirius Academy 30 Corpus Christie 0
Sirius knew that if they won this one they would be through to the National Finals, and they started on fire with Waller going over for two quick tries. Ellie Cone distributed the ball well and Danielle Fulton got more involved as the game progressed causing the defence problems. Mia Duke went over for two good tries after spotting a gap in the defence. And when Waller went over to make the scoreline 30 – 0, Corpus Christie called time on the game a five minutes early.

The improvements in the team today was immense, the girls were very aggressive, strong and organised in defence and very dangerous in attack.

Please congratulate the girls on their success, attitude and behaviour.
