Year 8 eco-adventure in Cumbria

It may have been cold and there may have even been snow on the ground, but nothing was going to stop 30 intrepid year 8 explorers from mastering the arts of survival on Morecambe Bay! Pupils got to grips with camouflage and tracking skills, den building and firelighting (we were so good we even made bread on our fires!) and a sea level traverse that really tested the nerve of our enthusiastic groups. Caves, scrambling and quicksand were no problem for Team Sirius!

And if you're exhausted just reading that bit, that was just the start. Castlehead field centre arranged team games, egg drops and best of all a low rope assault course (in the dark) and star gazing. We all found the brightest star in the night sky then it was back in the warm for hot chocolate and home baking!

We all learned a lot about how to look after and respect our environment but most importantly we really learned how to work well in teams. By the end of the 3 days our communication skills had really improved and we all had practice at being a leader and always taking part.

So, if you're ever in a survival emergency you know who to call! Sirius has 30 year 8s who can keep warm, build shelters and cook outside. We wouldn't recommend the bread though....
