Year 8 Sirius Academy West Girls crowned Rugby League Champions of Hull

Year 8 Sirius Academy West Girls crowned Rugby League Champions of Hull

The Sirius Academy West Year 8 Girls were crowned the Champions of Hull after beating three others schools in the Rugby League Competition at St Marys Academy.

The Sirius Academy derby was the first game of the competition, with the winners of this match having a good chance of progressing through to the Yorkshire Finals.

Sirius Academy West 7 Sirius Academy North 5
Sirius Academy North were the favourites to win this game after being victorious against West in their previous two meetings, but it was West who started the game the more energetic and organised, with Beth Dixon, the West captain leading with the way with strong runs forward as she got the first try of the game after bursting through the tackles and crashed over. North responded immediately as the game started to level out, with both sides looking dangerous in attack and playing some good rugby. Tilly Lee was taking the ball up well and making good yards forward as Sirius West extended the lead further with two more tries as the quick thinking Levis Lewis darted over and then Rachel Fox found some space out wide to score. North got a try back before the halftime break to make the scoreline 3 – 2. The second half saw both teams scoring some good tries, and again Beth Dixon made a big difference in the middle and went over for two further tries of her own. Cody Braham was fearless with her runs forward and got a well-deserved try. North kept fighting back with tries of their own, but when Millie Jordan went over in the later stages it was West who looked in control as the game finished 7 tries to 5 in favour of West.

Sirius Academy West 6 St Marys 1
Sirius Academy West had grown in confidence from the previous match and it showed, as they went over for three quick tries without response. Beth Dixon was proving too hard to get down for the St Marys team as she opened the scoring again, but it was Kalisha Quantock who really started to come more into the game and look very dangerous with her speed and power, as she went over for two well worked tries. The Sirius defence was looking a lot more organised as they managed to keep out the St Marys side with some good strong tackles from Tegan Lawler, Tilly Lee and Cody Braham. Millie Jordan was brought into the acting half back position and really came into her own as she also scored two tries after some great vision and turn of pace.  St Marys got a consolation try before Beth Dixon rounded off the scoring with an impressive 6 – 1 victory.

Sirius Academy West 7 Archbishop Sentamu 5
Sirius Academy West knew that a victory over Archbishop Sentamu would see them finish as Champions of Hull and progress onto the Yorkshire stages. Again Sirius West dominated in the early stages to take a good early lead as Kalisha Quantock showed good quick feet and speed off the mark to go over for the first try, Millie Jordan was enjoying her new role in the middle of the park and went over for two outstanding individual tries. Credit to Archbishop Sentamu, they didn’t give up and started to come more into the game with some good attack play which resulted in some good tries of their own. Cody Braham was looking good in attack and solid in defence and she capped off a fantastic individual display with two tries. Rihanna Smith and Lydia Walker on the wings were working hard, but Archbishop Sentamu made it a tense finish as they continued to go over for more tries, but Mille Jordan made sure that Sirius Academy won this game as she scored the final try to make it 7 – 5.
