Year 9 & 10 girls narrowly miss out in the Humberside Cup Quater Finals

The Sirius Academy U15s team lost 3-2 to Healing school despite having the majority of the possession throughout the entire game. The team got off to a promising start with some fantastic teamwork up front between Megan Atkinson, Ebony Hepworth and Megan Kay, unfortunately Healing managed to sneak an early goal which boosted their confidence.

The defence stood strong to keep it to 1-0 until half time with Megan Whittles, Eleanor Crisp, Charlotte Mawston and Ester Godwin working well. The second half started much the same with Sirius having a lot of possession in the opposition half, but could not get that all important goal, and when Sirius were slow to react to a quick throw in Healing doubled their lead. This seemed to spark a reaction from the Sirius girls, who showed great character and commitment, and got a well earned goal of their own. Once again it was the partnership of Hepworth and Atkinson that caused the Healing defence problems, a great mazy run from Atkinson fed Hepworth who slotted home. Sirius went all out attack and went to 3 at the back, Chloe Gray in goal made some fine saves and distributed the ball well but on the counter attack Healing got their third. Again Sirius would not lie down and kept working till the end. Some good work from Mellissa Tulley and Natalia Butler made space for Atkinson, whose shot was parried by the keeper, but the alert Hepworth was first to react to the rebound, making the scoreline 3 – 2 with a few minutes remaining. A late shout for a penalty went against Sirius in the last few seconds of the match, but Sirius can hold their heads high after a gritty performance. Mia Morgan and Angelika worked hard on their first football appearance for Sirius Academy.

Squad; Megan Atkinson, Ebony Hepworth, Megan Kay, Megan Whittles, Eleanor Crisp, Charlotte Mawston, Ester Godwin, Mellisa Tulley, Chloe Gray, Natalia Butler, Mia Morgan and Angelika.
