Year 9 Boys Rugby League: Sirius Academy 36 Wolfreton 28
Sirius Academy West 36 Wolfreton 28
The Sirius Academy Year 9 boys managed to beat a good Wolfreton side to go into the next round of the cup. The Sirius boys started at a fast pace and managed go over in the early stages through Leon Stewart who took the ball from the scrum and outpaced the Wolfreton defence, Lewis Wilson added the extras. Sirius were looking good in attack and shortly after they doubled the lead, another powerful run from Leon Stewart saw him burst through the middle, with only the fullback to beat a well timed draw and pass to Joe Grant saw him score under the sticks which Lewis Wilson converted. It was all Sirius as they defended well as a team, limiting Wolfreton to any space. But against the run of play a ball was intercepted by the Wolfreton player who raced over to make it 12 - 6. Sirius knew they had let them back into the game and was determined to extend the lead before the halftime break, and they did just that. Great hands down the line involving Sam Macauley who found Leon Stewart to tip on Joe Grant to go over for his second, that was well converted. Leon Stewart rounded off the first half with another try from the scrum as he rounded the Wolfreton defence once again to make it 24 - 6.
Wolfreton came out a different a team in the second half looking to give the game a real good go, and when a mistake from the Sirius side gave them the ball they found some renewed confidence to go over for two tries in quick succession. Leon Stewart burst over from close range to give Sirius a bit more breathing space, but the Wolfreton side would not give up and when they went over for two more tries it was anybodies game with only two points in it and two minutes remaining. Some great defence from the kick off from Sirius forced Wolfreton to knock on in their own half, this was capitalised on as Sam Macauley scooted from dummy half over the tryline, but as the ball was reefed out Joe Grant was on hand to dive on the loose ball and secure the victory at 36 - 28.
Sirius played some fantastic rugby and it was real team effort that fully deserved the victory, even though they made hard work of it in the second half.
Please congratulate the boys on their outstanding performance, attitude and behaviour.
