Sirius Year 9s produce a brave display

[14 Feb 2011]

The Year 9 Rugby team produced a brave effort against last years National and Yorkshire Cup Finalists Castleford High before falling to a 26-6 defeat. The boys can be proud of their efforts in a game that was made more difficult through a Castleford High pupil refereeing the match!

The boys fell behind to a well worked try however Sirius showed great determination led by the likes of Jamie Warcup and Liam Platten to work their way back into the match. Harry Tyson then began to show his class with several telling contributions with one of these putting Calvin Parker over for a try with Liam Harris goaling to level the scores at 6-6. Following several strange decisions from the referee Castleford work their way into a position to score and retake the lead at half-time 12-6.

The second half started brightly for Sirius with Brandon Hepworth, John Godwin and Rohid Zamani leading the way in defence and attack. In a hostile environment, the boys fought well with well over 200 pupils and fans cheering the Castleford team on. A further try led to an 18-6 scoreline with Tyson then leaving the pitch, Sirius could have easily of gave up but credit to the boys for their spirit. Two late tries ensured the Castleford victory in a scoreline that didnt reflect the effort and skill shown by Sirius.

Big performances were produced from Warcup, Platten, Hepworth, Zamani, Kieran Jones and Benn Arbon. With Harry Tyson taking the man of the match.

The team have much to be proud of after already winning the Hull Schools League, they will now concentrate on the Hull Schools Cup which will begin after half-term.
