The Debate Club’s London Trip

[02 Mar 2011]

On Thursday 17th February, 36 students from the Academy’s Debate Club set off to visit London for an overnight stay. The purpose of the trip was to tour the Houses of Parliament on Friday morning, in order to extend the club members’ learning of the political system, the relevance of Parliament and democracy, and engage them in the principles of debating.

The students also had the opportunity to visit The ‘Evolving English’ exhibition at the British Library, where they were able to look at the power of language and examine how it has evolved; before watching ‘Blood Brothers’ in the West End, during the evening.

The trip proved to be an informative and enjoyable experience, which students are sure to remember for a long time. It has also helped to prepare and support the work that is completed in English and History lessons.
