Victory in the Hull FC Year 7 Girls Rugby Festival

[05 Jan 2011]

Sirius Academy have claimed victory in the Hull FC Year 7’s Girls Rugby Festival at Hull University having launched an unbeaten run in the competition.

Brutal weather conditions did very little to affect the teams enthusiasm as seven Hull based schools went head to head for the Year 7 Girls Tag Rugby crown.

The event, co-ordinated by Hull FC and the Hull University students who recently completed their Rugby League Leaders Awards with the Black and Whites, showcased a host of talented players from across the region.

Sir Henry Cooper’s Farrah Taylor was strong throughout and proved very tough to overcome in defence, accompanied by Chantelle Shay’s quick feet which caused numerous problems for the opposition.

Sydney Smith’s Connie Calvert and St. Mary’s Yvette McCormick were equally as threatening with their never-say-die attitude, leading by example in their teams.

However, it was to be Sirius Academy’s day as they came out on top in all of their six matches at the University.

The strong running of Ebony Hepworth, Esther Goodwin’s immense defence and an superb all round display for Jourdan Longdon proved to be the difference between the sides.

Sirius were followed close behind by Malet Lambert and Winifred Holtby.
