An outnumbered Sirius outfit lose – Again!

[25 Jan 2017]

Missing plenty of regulars but eager to fulfil the fixture, Sirius Academy fielded a team of just 10 players to take part in a 15-a-side year 9 Hull Schools tournament against Hessle and Wolfreton. Of our small squad, we were forced to field four year 8’s who did well to step up and play against the age above. The lads displayed great bravery playing their hearts out during both games. In attack we  always looked threatening, Sam McAuley’s kicking was brilliant throughout the tournament, accurately finding wingers Kai Shaw and Leon Dallee who were held up near the try line several times.

Connor Foster managed to score our only two tries following great individual runs brushing off several defenders. However, In defence we were outnumbered, outsized and outplayed. Despite the team’s feeble defensive effort, Kai Shaw’s defending was exemplar as he threw himself at players 3 or 4 times his size persistently throughout the game, at times making several try saving tackles. Despite his strong effort, we were unable to keep the opposition out shipped plenty of tries!

In the end this game simply proved the lads will play whatever the weather and whatever the numbers, as they simply love rugby regardless of the score!

Please congratulate the following players for their valiant effort: Kai Shaw (Year 8) Keiran Welburn (year 8) Liam Fox (year 8) Billy Fenby (year 8) Connor Foster, Sam McAuley, Alex Dunne, Leon Dallee, Macualey Flynn, Charlie Dobson.

Also special Thanks to Cheryl Norton for driving us!
