RE
At Sirius Academy West, religious education is a valued component of our balanced and broad curriculum.
However, under law, parents/carers have the right to withdraw their child from all, or part of religious education lessons.
To do so parents/carers must:
- Submit a request, in writing to the Head of School stating whether the request is total, or partial. There is no legal obligation to provide a reason.
- It may be that you are invited to the Academy to discuss the parameters of the withdrawal. This is not to challenge any withdrawal but to ensure all effective communication and plans for moving forward.
- If withdrawn, your child will be safely supervised, and all steps will be taken to ensure a productive alternative, albeit there is no legal obligation to provide alternative education or teaching.
- This legal right extends only to religious education specifically, and not other subjects where associated religious material may be studied.
-
When will I choose what subjects I study?
You will choose options during HT 3 of Year 8. Until then you follow a broad curriculum to give you experiences of a wide range of subjects.
-
When will I be assessed?
You will do regular assessments in lessons and 2 formal tests in each subject each year.
-
Why do some of my friends have different subjects to me?
Some departments have a rota so you can experience many different subjects. You will get chance later in the year to do those so you will not miss out!
