BBC School Report visit to Media City, UK ( Salford, Manchester)

[25 Mar 2013]

Mr Proven and Miss Walker took five year 8 pupils through to BBC Salford where many of the BBC studios have moved from London to Media City Uk. What a fantastic day it turned out to be!

We were given excellent hospitality throughout the day from beginning to end from a very professional and yet extremely friendly team.

There were about ten schools involved and it was very pleasing to see the character and behaviour of our pupils stand out in a very positive manner and it was obvious that the Sirius students were popular with the BBC team.

All five had a chance to show off their media skills in the very best surroundings with tremendous support from the professionals in different areas of journalism and media.

Jack Best and Joe Boxall were involved in a live radio interview with the CEO of Liverpool FC and the ladies’ team captain Fara Williams, then Jack and Molly Johnson gave a sports report on a live radio link from inside a ‘Tardis’. While this was going on, Jak Langley and Ellie-Mae Norrie were preparing for two live sports desk reports from the actual sports desk used by Match of the day etc!!

I had the privilege of watching Jak and Ellie taking orders from ‘the gallery’ and the stage manager whilst waiting to go live from the next studio from TV news presenter Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes. I don’t know who was more nervous, me or Jak and Ellie! (yes, I do…me). Their live reports were absolutely brilliant and they were truly fantastic and had a round of applause from the studio team at the end.

Their report hasn’t been uploaded onto the BBC School Report website, but when it does I will post a link, it is really well worth a look. All in all this was a fantastic experience for us all and a great insight into the world of media and possible career paths for our students who were a credit to themselves, their families and Sirius Academy.
