Boccia 21/1/20
On Tuesday 21st January we ventured to The Allam Sports Arena (Hull University) to compete in the Disability Sport Yorkshire boccia competition. There were over 100 students there to participate in the 6 groups of 6 teams with the Top KS3/4 and KS5 teams qualifying for the Yorkshire finals later this year.
The squads, as ever, were a mixture of old heads and some new additions to the teams.
SAW 1:
Ade Adedeyo
Doten Adedayo
Jordan Hernon
Connor Welburn
SAW 2:
Emmanuel Uzoigbe
Michael Uzoigbe
Kamil Plachta
Bethany White
SAW 3:
Lealah Cassidy
Ben Dickinson
Reagan Palmer
Josh Asquith
SAW 1:
After 5 games played, SAW 1 finished joint top of their league with 4 wins a piece but head to head results meant that they went through to the 1/4 finals as winners of their group!
SAW 2:
Finished with a perfect record…5 games, 5 wins! Unbelievable!!! Through to the quarter finals!
SAW 3:
Played some excellent boccia and were unlucky not to finish higher than 3rd in the league, but were still able to win 3 out of their 5 fixtures. Again, an excellent effort by all the team.
Quarter finals:
Both SAW 1 and 2 played brilliantly! Both teams were able to come out winners…2 teams out of 36 into the final 4.
Semi Finals:
SAW 1 were flying and continued their excellent run of form and were able to win their semi.
SAW 2 came up against a clearly well experienced KS5 team, who deserved the win but SAW 2 fought to the bitter end.
3rd place playoff:
SAW 2 took it to a dramatic bowl off as the scores were tied after 3 ends and it was Michael Uzoigbe who played the decisive ball…unbelievable stuff!!!
Final:
SAW 1 took to the court for one final push, like the 3rd/4th playoff it went right down to the wire with East Riding College trailing 3-1 going into the final end. ERC were able to pull victory from the jaws of defeat as with their last ball were able to score 2 points in the 3rd end, making it 3-3 and taking it to a tie break shoot out.
Unfortunately it was East Riding who managed to secure the victory but that doesn’t take away from the sensational performances on the day.
SAW 1 were still able to qualify as they finished the highest ranked KS4 team and move onto the Yorkshire Finals.
Well done to all involved!!
