The opening inclusion event of the year was held at St Mary’s on Thursday 11th October. For it, we returned to an old favourite…boccia.
There was a mixture of experienced members and some new additions to the team. We hoped the mix of old heads and youthful enthusiasm would pay dividends by the end of play.
Ade Adedayo started the day off fantastically as, whilst myself and Mrs Watson were taking care of the admin side, he took it upon himself to lead a warm up game and held the newbies get to grips with rules and techniques.
The games were back and forth with both teams coming together for a ‘debrief’ after each game. There were some outstanding performances with Ade and Jack being named player’s player of the day. Moment of the day, however, came from Flynn Clark who performed what Mrs Watson could only describe to me as “one of the finest shots she’d ever witnessed on a boccia court” when he wiped out 2 of his opponents boccia balls with a single flick of the wrist. A 2 point loss was converted to a 1 point win…unbelievable stuff!
The days play concluded with the award ceremony, Sirius A were able to win their category and claimed a deserved gold. Sirius B held up their end of the bargain too with a fantastic 3rd place in their category!
Well done to all involved, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day and all students represented the academy impeccably and a huge thank you to Mrs Watson for her support on the day (her team won gold). Well done!
