Boccia Tournament 14/2/17

[16 Feb 2017]

Due to the bumper numbers of students keen for a chance of glory in this years edition of the Humber Schools Boccia competition, Sirius Academy West was able to enter 3 teams of 3.

Sirius 1:
Adedamola Adeoye
Joshua Lusty
Millie Neadley

Sirius 2:
Connor Pickering
Jordan Hernon
Adam Hewson-Cutler

Sirius 3:
Charlie Harrison
Flynn Clark
Tommy Clark

Each team were put into different group stages with the eventual top 3 and best placed runners up going into the Semi’s and then Final.

After some sharpshooting practice throws a quiet confidence seemed to grow in each of the 3 teams as the first round of fixtures were announced. Their date with destiny had arrived…

SIRIUS 1:
Game 1: A flying start with a close 3-3 draw being taken to a nail biting tie breaker. Thankfully Sirius held their nerve and won with a couple of excellent throws. 5-3 win.
Game 2: This was an even trickier match, one they unable to negotiate. 4-0 loss.
Game 3: The bad run continued with a 5-1 loss against a very skilled St Mary’s 4th side.
Game 4: Sirius were able to take out their frustrations on an unfortunate Axholme 3 side. 7-0 win, the beast had been awoken!

SIRIUS 2:
Game 1: The competition started off in nightmare fashion with Axholme 1 cruising to a 3-0 lead in the opening end. Despite some heroics from Adam, it was too greater gap for the boys to close with an eventual scoreline of 3-2.
Game 2: This was a much more fruitful venture with Sirius running out 10-0 victors. A hopeful kick starter!
Game 3: Sadly this new found form was quickly lost when, despite a hard fought draw, St Mary’s managed to scrape a tie breaker victory.

SIRIUS 3:
Game 1 was a harsh reality check as they were overcome by the skill and tactics of St Mary’s 1. 5-1 Loss.
Game 2: This was a back and forth tussle with both teams leading at various stages, final score was 2-2. TIE BREAKER. The tension was palpable as the Boccia’s were hurled, flicked, rolled and even willed across. Unfortunately it was Axholme who managed to squeak to a 3-2 victory.
Game 3: I think the mental and physical toll of the previous war had taken it’s toll as Sirius 3 slumped to a 3rd successive defeat. 5-2.
Game 4: Kings Mill were the next challengers and no they didn’t bring team sandwiches. This was another close edgy affair, one that unfortunately Sirius 3 were unable to overcome. 3-2 loss, yet again close but no cigar.

There was to be no Sirius representative in the Semi Final stage. This, however, was not the end of the days play with all three being put into a further round of games. Thankfully all 3 teams were able to perform well with all 3 snatching wins.

Overall Standings:
Sirius 2 8th
Sirius 1 10th
Sirius 3 11th

Well done to all involved, they all remained really enthusiastic and continued to play till the end!
