British Science Week Celebrations with Penshurst Primary School

[19 Mar 2018]

Sirius Academy West continued with their celebrations of British Science Week with a visit to Penshurst Primary School on Friday 16th March. Year 5 pupils worked with Miss Abedin and year 10 scientists Tom Horner, Millie Jordan, Macy Pearson and Jacob Owen on an exciting Physics challenge.

Pupils worked in groups to design, create and decorate a rocket using plastic bottles. The rockets made by group 2 stood out for being very uniquely decorated. One example had a unicorn horn for a nose and another had a Tutu skirt! Pupils then braved the bad weather in order to launch them out in the playground area and compete for first prize. Scooping the prize in group 1 was Izobelle who’s rocket almost got lost in the clouds. Equally, in group 2, Liam’s rocket exceeded the height of the school roof!

Thank you to Miss Abedin for planning and delivering the session as well as the four leaders who acted as excellent ambassadors for the subject and the wider Academy.

Miss Shaw will return to Penshurst Primary School on Wednesday 21st March to deliver a Quidditch tournament as part of the year 5 topic work on Harry Potter.
