Computer Science – Hour of Code
This year, all KS3 students have been taking part in the Hour of Code week this week, alongside another 43 million other students across the world!!!
Every year 7 and 8 students at Sirius Academy have the opportunity to learn Computer Science in a fun and educational way. Students have to problem solve using code and make things happen.
Jake says, “The Hour of Code is brilliant because there is something for everyone, boys, girls and older people. My favourite challenge is the MineCraft because it can be difficult but you can reset it, and learn from it. I won a certificate aswell!”
With recent changes to the National Curriculum Computer Science, Computer programming is now embedded in Key Stage 3 and students are now able to opt for a GCSE Computing course at KS4 and KS5.
One student exclaimed, “I love the Computing course and I have learnt Python programming and now am learning how to use Linux with the Raspberri Pi. This is definitely something I want to do in my career.”
