CSI – The Deep visit
[13 Sep 2018]
Yesterday myself and 5 pupils from the year 11 Science 9’s club were invited to the deep as part of Hull’s Science week. The ZSL (Zoological society of London) performed a live autopsy of a Harbour Porpoise, that had washed on the shore of Devon earlier in the week. A CSI team performed a dissection in front of ourselves and members of the public to work out the cause of death.
Having already attended an interactive pig dissection last term, we thought we knew what to expect. When the CSI team used garden loppers to remove the ribs, releasing a ‘ripe’ smell into the room we had a few pale faces in our group.
Overall the experience was fascinating, with the pupils thoroughly enjoying themselves.
