East Yorkshire Champions- Under 15 Rugby Union girls

[22 Mar 2017]

Yesterday the under 15s Rugby Union team travelled to Driffield to take part in the East Yorkshire competition. The standard was high and due to past performances all eyes were on the Sirius girls as the team to beat on the day!

Sirius drew 3 difficult teams in the group stages; Lady Lumley’s, St Marys and Driffield School however finished top of their group with 2 wins and a draw. The girls knew they had to win their play off match to go through to the Yorkshire finals next week which would give them the chance to represent the area in the national competition later in the year.

In the final the girls were up against a strong and well drilled Ryedale School who clearly played Rugby Union for clubs outside School. The Sirius girls stepped up to the mark and worked as a solid team to defend with some outstanding tackles to stop the Ryedale girls from scoring. The Sirius girls reacted well to mistakes and Ryedale couldn’t keep up with the pace of the Sirius Girls. The final score was 3-1 to Sirius which sees the very talented girls take on the best Yorkshire teams in next weeks competition.

The girls were a credit to the academy and showed resilience and determination in every game they played.
