G&T National Student Conference
Gifted and Talented students in Y10 attended the national student conference in Manchester on 25th January 2013.
This intensive one-day programme consists of five lectures and an afternoon debate. Lectures are delivered by experts in various locations across the country. Students experience a ‘university’ style lecture which begins to prepare them for the type of study they will undertake in higher education.
Students listened to lectures around 5 different topics, which included:
- Cultural change and leadership
- Lost touch – an evolutionary need
- The use of language to discriminate
- Whose streets? Music and the politics of public space
- Celebrity worship: A disorder?
- Is it an equal world?
Students shared the conference with other Gifted and Talented students from across the country and behaved impeccable throughout the visit. It has allowed students to gain an understanding of the difference between learning experiences in Secondary education compared to higher education learning.
