HALLETT AND ABDULL LEAD YEAR 11s TO HULL SCHOOLS FOOTBALL FINAL

[28 Mar 2012]

HULL SCHOOLS’ CUP U.16 SEMI-FINAL – SIRIUS 3 SYDNEY SMITH 1

Two goals fom Macauley Hallett and one from Jordan Abdull ensured that the Year 11 Football Team are in
the final of the Hull School’s U.16 Football Cup Final.

The game did not start to plan when Sydney Smith took the lead in the first minute. Our defence( Fenton,Gordon, Norfolk,Collier) had decided to
take matters into their own hands and switch two players positions – not a happy manager and a resounding
reminder ensured- that was not going to happen again and a lesson for those players!

Back to the original plan the players knuckled down and organised themselves into shape, competing and playing some attractive football.
Hallett and Abdull up front were causing problems with their pace and power. It was not long before Hallett was put through in a one two and calmly
slotted the ball away for the equaliser.

The team grew in confidence with Liam Robinson a ‘man mountain’ and not to be passed, Turgut, Duke and Lister all pressing from midfield.
Some excellent football and chances pursued. Again it was Hallett who broke free and smashed in the second goal to give us a deserved lead
at half-time!

The second half became more difficult but the team stuck to their tasks defending well and breaking quickly to counter-attack. Moy in goal
ensured a safe pair of hands which gave confidence to the team. Nrfolk and especially Gordon were outstanding!

It was a quick counter-attack that ensured a third goal. Again a sweeping move from one end to the other culminating in a great finish from Jordan Abdull.

The team had been outstanding after their initial scare and late substitutions in Batty, Adjei and Marshall ensured we maintained our dominance.

Delighted players and manager ( witnessed by our two Ethiopian visitors and Tom Mclaughlin) were ecstatic and joyous to have defeated our local rivals.

The team will now meet Winifred Holtby in the final.

Please praise the boys for a their wonderful efforts!
