Hull Schools Primary Sports events
Over the past couple of weeks Sirius Academy West provided student leaders, for the four largest Hull Schools Primary Sports events of the academic year.
40 of our students from years 7 – 12 helped deliver three Athletics events and a Cricket event to over 1,400 young people in Hull, many from our feeder and Constellation Trust primary schools.
For the Athletics events, 3 different leadership groups delivered the inaugural Hull Schools Quadkids Athletics Championships and Hull Schools Primary Athletics Championships. These events act as an introduction to athletics for school children aged 5 – 11 years old and involve athletes competing in a sprint, middle distance run, long jump and mini-vortex howler throw events. Our leaders officiated the event stations and kept track of the athletes scores and times, instructing visiting school staff on where to go next and also giving practical demonstrations to the young athletes. Staff from the primary schools were extremely positive with their feedback and our leadership teams represented our Academy superbly on each day. It was great to see the year 6 students joining us from September engage with our leadership group and be inspired.
On Friday 15 June, a select group of our student leaders teamed up with the Yorkshire Cricket Board and several local cricket club volunteers to deliver the showcase primary school Cricket event at Hymers College. A long day of competition involved our leaders umpiring several matches between primary schools. The umpiring was scheduled in pairs to begin with but after impressing the Yorkshire Cricket Board with their confidence, knowledge and mathematics, many of our leaders umpired matches all on their own. Our leadership team represented themselves very well, a credit to our Academy. Please read the message of thanks received from the Yorkshire Cricket Board:
‘A huge thank you to Sirius Academy West on the day for providing the leaders. The students did fantastically well and allowed us to run on the day. Without their support we certainly wouldn’t have been able to have run the event at all. The lads were great to work with and have been a great showcase for the school. Again a big thank you for the help and fingers crossed we can continue to work together and bring huge competitions like that every year’
Please congratulate all our student leadership teams if you have the opportunity.
