I DON’T LIKE CRICKET, I LOVE IT!!!
[13 Jan 2020]
On Thursday we took a group of Year 7 and 8 boys to the U13’s Hull Indoor Cricket Competition at Nuffield Health and Leisure Centre.
There were 4 teams in total and the top 2 would go through to the East Yorkshire Finals in a couple of weeks time.
1st game was against St Mary’s B team and it was a shaky start but the boys managed to put on a batting masterclass to win the game by 4 runs.
2nd game we came up against a very strong St Mary’s A team. This was a real test and some of the boys crumbled under the pressure; dropped catches, misfields and some poor communication between our batsmen led us to our first defeat. Very sad indeed.
3rd game we came up against tournament favourites Malet Lambert. Malet started the game with some quality batting and we thought we were in trouble, however the bowling masterclass from Sean Martin soon dealt with that! Another win led us to the final against the team that beat us in round 2.
Final- Motivational team talk and tactical changes implemented. This was an absolute cracker of a final and we put St Mary’s in to bat first, a wise decision from our captain on the day Ryan Bennett. St Marys’ two opening batsmen were outstanding in the first game and we needed them out quickly for us to stand any chance. Sean ‘James Anderson’ Martin stepped up to bowl out their opening batsmen. With some outstanding fielding, particularly from the Atkinson twins and Harry Maskell we saw Mary’s off for a decent score of 53 all out.
Our turn to bat… With a very good score to beat, it seemed an impossible task however, we always stood a chance with the batting qualities of our year 7’s Tom Marsh and Kaiser Brown assisted by our Y8’s Luca Atkinson and Kian Goodhand. HULL SCHOOL’S INDOOR CRICKET CHAMPIONS!!!
The boys performed outstanding on the day and their attitude and behaviour was exemplary.
We now move onto the East Yorkshire finals on Friday 24th January.
